The course is focused on class management as essential for creating a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Starting from the idea that teaching is an emotional practice, the course explains the importance of creating a sense of belonging in the class and in the school, as the key to develop harmony and to create a “class culture”. This is the main aspect in creating inclusive environments, where everybody feels welcomed and valued. It will be developed around five social-emotional core competencies, each having “positive habits of mind”, that are essential skills for the development of the pupil into an equilibrated adult.
The participants will experience practical exercises aimed to develop in children: confidence, persistence, organization, cooperation and resilience. Debriefing will take place, facilitating adaptations of the activities to specific class situations and pupils typologies. The tools used in organizing the activities are non-formal, consisting in games, dances, board games, brain fitness activities and mindfulness activities.
